Meaning and scope of Ecology and Environmental Science; History of ecology, Ecology in India, Approaches to the study of Ecology and environmental science. (Marks-7)

UNIT-II

Environmental components: Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Lithosphere and Biosphere; Weather and climate; elementary idea of climate of northeast India. (Marks: 7)

UNIT-III 

Ecology and Evolution: The origin of earth; Chemical evolution, Biological evolution, Geological time scale and origin of major groups of living organisms. (Marks: 7)

UNIT-IV

Concept of habitat and niche, Adaptation - plant and animal. (Marks: 7)

UNIT-V

Institutions in Environment: The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), World Wide Fund for Nature-India(WWF-India), Centre for Science and Environment (CEE), Wildlife 1nstitu of India (WII), Botanical Survey of India(BSI), Zoological Survey of India(ZSI). (Marks: 7)
