(b) Distinguish between a crystalline and an amorphous solid. [4]
2. (a) Describe the crystal structure of NaCl.
(b) Define packing fraction (PF)
UNIT-II
3. (a) What is Bravais lattice? Discuss different types of Bravais lattice.
(b) State Bragg's law.
4. (a) Write the theory of.formation of Lane spots during X-ray diffraction.
(b) Describe Bragg's spectrometer and explain how it is used to determine the wavelength of X-ray.
UNIT--III
5. (a) What do you mean by thermionic emission and space charge limited current?
(b) Deduce Richardson's equation of thernionic emission.
6. (a) Briefly describe the construction of a triode.
(b) Explain the working of a triode as an amplifier.
(c) Establish the relationship μ rpgm for triode, where the symbols have their usual meaning.
UNIT-IV
7. (a) Draw the necessary diagram and explain the working of a full-wave rectifier using P-N junction diode.
(b) What do you understand by Zener breakdown?
8. (a)What is a transistor? Draw the symbols of n-p-n and p-n-p transistors.
(b) Define α and β for a transistor and deduce the relation between them

9. (a)What is an oscillator? State Barkhausen criterion for oscillation
(b) Discuss the working of a tuned- collector oscillator with necessary circuit diagram
10. (a) State De Morgan's theorem. Prove the theorem with the help of truth table.
(b) Give the symbol and write the truth table for an OR gate.
