UNIT—I 

1. (a) State and prove Gauss’ theorem in electrostatics.
(b) Apply Gauss’ theorem to calculate the electhc field due to an infinitely long charged straight wire.


2.(a) What is a Helmholtz coil?
(b) Show that the uniform field can be obtained when the distance between two coaxial coils is equal to the radius of either coil.

UNIT—II 

3.(a) What are the magnetic field intensity and the magnetic field potential:’
(b) Find the magnetic field intensity at an arbitrary point due to a magnetic dipole.

4.(a) What are hysteresis arid hysteresis loop?
(b) Show that loss of energy per unit volume when a magnetic sample is taken tliiuugh a cuiiiplete cyde of LILagIletLd.t ion is equal to the area enclosed by the hysteresis loop.

5. (a) State and explain Kirchhoff’s laws of distribution of currents in an electrical network.
(b) A cell of e.m.f. 2 volt and internal resistance I ohm is connected with two wirc of rei5tance5 2 ohm and 5 ohm in parallel. Find the current throug each wire.


6.(a) discuss the construction and necessary principle for working of a potentiometer.
(b)Explain how electric current can be measured by using potentiometer.

(b) Using Biot Savart law, find thc magnctic field intensity at any point on the axis of a solenoid.

9.(a) What is resonance in L-C-R ircuit?
(b) Find the expression of average power in an AC circuit.

10.(a) Define reactance and impedance of an AC circuit.
(b) Find the expression of growth and decay of current in a circuit containing resistor (R) and inductor (L).
