Group A(Inorganic):
Unit I:Theories of bonding in complexes:VBT-interpretation of magnetic properties and stereochemistry, CFT-splitting in octahedral complexes, explanation of d-d electronic transition, spectrochemical series, high spin and low spin complexes.
Unit II: Environmental Chemistry: Idea of pollution and pollutants, study of acid rain, Ozone layer depletion, green house effect, radioactive fallout and pollution due to pesticides, fertilizer and detergents.
Unit III: Method of analysis: principles of colorimetric, flame photometric and ion-exchanged method of analysis.
Unit IV: Manufacture of pulp and paper, Portland cement: Average composition, manufacture and setting.
Group B(organic):
Unit I:Amines(Aliphatic and aromatic):various method of preparation of amines, necessity and effect of substituent’s, chemical reactivity(acylation, action of nitrous acid, carbylamines reaction, condensation and carbonyl group, ring substitution). Distinction between primary, secondary and tertiary amines, diazotization and its mechanism.
Unit II:Peptide and protein:Peptide bond and sysnthesis of peptide and polypeptide, preliminary concept of primary and secondary structure of protein.
Nucleic acids: The purine and pyrimidin nucleobases of DNA and RNA and the double helix structure.
Unit III: Urea: preparation of urea, reaction of urea with HNO2, HNO3, NaOH, CH2COCl, NH2NH2, and diethyl malonate, formation of biuret.
Unit IV: Chromatography:Clasification of Chromatographic methods, principle of differential migration, adsorption phenomenon, nature of absorbent, solvent system, Rf values. Thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, paper chromatography. Various methods of developments-ascending, horizontal, descending.
Group C(physical)
Unit I: Chemical Equilibrium-I: Le chatelier’s principle. Calculation of equilibrium constant of some chemical equilibria, effect of temperature, pressure concentration and addition of inert gas on equilibrium constant.(simple numerical)
Unit II: Chemical Equilibrium-II: law of mass action and its application, reaction isotherm. Van’t Hoff equation(derivation not required). Relation between standard free energy change and equilibrium constant.(simple numerical)
Unit III:Chemical Kinetics I: Rate of chemical reaction, Factors affecting the rate of chemical reaction, order and molecularity of a chemical reaction. First order, second order, zero and fractional order of reaction. Differential rate equation and their integrated forms for first order reactions (simple numerical)
Unit IV: Chemical Kinetics II: Differential rate equation and their integrated form for 2nd order reactions. Determination of order of reaction. Arrhenius equation and energy of activation. Catalysis-types and criteria
