Group A:-
Unit I:- Schrodinger’s wave equation for H atom and explanation of all the terms involved, significance of ψ of and ψ(square).
Periodic properties of elements:- screening or shielding effect, Slater’s rule, csalculation of screening constant and effective nuclear charge, diagonal relationship, inert pair effect, variation of different physical properties along periods and group-atom and ionic size, ionization energy, electron affinity, electro-negativity.
Unit II:- theories of acids and base:- cady-elsey theory, SHAB principal,(pearson’s concept).
Non-aquous solvent:- Reaction in liquids NH3 and liquid SO2.
Unit III:- Nitrogen family:- Hydrazoic acid , hydrazine and hydroxyl amine-preperation and properties.
Carbon family:-allotrops of carbon-graphite, diamond, fullerenes and carbon nanotubes, structure and relevant properties.
Unit IV:- general study of the properties of f-block elements:- Lanthanides, Lanthanide contraction and its effects on main body of the periodic table.
Group B:-
Unit I:- Coal, petroleum and petrochemicals:- orogin of coal and carbonization of coal, coal gasification, coal tar based chemicals, mode of formation fo petroleum, cracking, knocking, octane number, flash point, LPG synthetic petrol and petrochemicals.
Unit II:- ARENE:- Electrophillic substitution reaction in aromatic hydrocarbons, effect of substitution(activating groups, deactivating groups and directive influence groups) using the following examples: nitration, sulphonation, halogenations, formulation, Friedel-craft alkylsation and acylation.
Unit III:- alcohol and phenols:- introduction, method of synthesis including hydroboration and oxymercuration, physical properties, chemical reactivity, distinction between 1⁰, 2⁰, and 3⁰ alcohols, synthesis, and acidic character of phenols, Reimer-tiemenn reaction, Fries rearrangement.
Unit IV:- Aldehydes and ketons(Aliphatic and aromatic):- introduction to carbonyl groups, methods of synthesis of aldehydes and ketons. Nucleophilic addition reaction, reaction with Fehiling’s solution KMnO4, K2Cr2O7, HCN, NaHSO3 Claisen condensation, Cannizzaro reaction, Reformatsky reaction, Aldol condensation, Knoevenagel reaction.
Group C:-
Unit I:-Elementary idea of thermodynamics:- Review of thermodynamic term, system, surrounding, type of systems, Intensive and extensive properties, sate and path functions and their differentials, thermodynamic processes, concept of heat and work.
Unit II:-First low of thermodynamics: statement, definition of internal energy and enthalpy. Heat capacity and their relationship for ideal gas-Joul-Thomson effect, inversion temperature, calculation of thermodynamic properties for the expansion of ideal gases under isothermal and adiabatic conditions and for reversible processes.
UNIT-III:-Phase equilibrium: Statement and meaning of the term phase, component and degree of freedom, Derivation of Gibb’s phase rule, phase diagram of one component system-H2O, CO2.
UNIT-IV:- Solution: Raoult’s Law, Colligative properties-relative lowering of vapour pressure, elevation of boiling point and depression of freezing point. Osmosis, Laws of osmotic pressure and its measurement. Abnormal colligative properties and van’t Hoff factor.
Chemistry practical:-

- d) qualitative test and identification of sugar, vit C, urea, priteins.
